I have been going out of my comfort zone and connecting with new people and learning new things.
I reached out on Facebook to see if anyone had pennies to give me. I told them I would pay face value or donate that amount. There was about 15 different people in Timmins who contacted me and said they had pennies. After driving around and collecting them, I took the effort to count them. I collected another $176 in pennies for a grand total of 29,333 pennies collected since the publication of the book!
I usually do a sort of pennies as follows:
-Shiny, clean pennies
-Dark, dull pennies
-older pennies – 1964 and older (higher copper content)
-1967 pennies (with the bird)
-American pennies (also sort wheat pennies separately)
-dirty pennies
-coloured pennies – there are some with the beautiful patina on copper teal, some red, and even some yellow looking pennies
The rest of the pennies go in larger containers where I can use for different art projects
With all this sorting, it sparked my interest in Coin Collecting. I joined a few groups on Facebook and have went to the bank to hunt for rolls. Sometimes I find treasures and sometimes not. The banks will no longer give pennies but they will take them (unless you are friends with a banker) I have also purchased some collections on Marketplace and purchased directly through the Royal Canadian Mint. As if I don’t have enough on my plate, but I enjoy this alot.
When going to the bank, I’ve met a few people and am now Facebook friends with one of the tellers!
I also looked at some of the art that can be done with my pennies that are different than full wall murals. Can’t wait to try some, especially the turtle with a teal shell – beauty. They will be for sale on my website and Facebook page.
One of our Principals reached out to me to have a munch and lunch with the kids at the school – Schumacher PS. That school is 2 blocks away from my house. I’m very excited and I think they’ll have a good time too! I’ll post more about that too.
My brain doesn’t stop! I have a boardgame idea as well as a card game. I need to put my book 2 on paper. It has been brewing in my head and starting to get too busy.
And I am learning to add posts to my website and will try to blog at least monthly. I am adding stuff to social media but the time passes by so quickly.
Until next time – I need to find a coin related word that means SEE YA LATER!
